Cold, wind, and snow didn’t dampen the spirits of our friends from @FrostRiverPhotos. After breakfast we paddled north on a day trip. The sun played hide and seek with snow squalls all day. As we paddled up Jack Lake we spotted a two moose browsing in the willows along shore. Then at the north end of the lake near the portage into Weird Lake we came across another moose. It was exciting to see 3 moose in one hour! We have been seeing a lot of moose sign on the portage trails this spring, but in one hour we were able to double the number of moose we have seen since we paddled into the Wilderness 234 days ago.

Towards the end of the day as we paddled south down Jack Lake towards our campsite on Kelly Lake we encountered the first two moose again. They were closer this time and we were able to get a better look at them. They looked much healthier than the moose we saw last week.
Today we are visiting with three new friends who paddled out yesterday afternoon. The wind continues to howl and the temperature is hovering around freezing. The heat of the wood stove and hot cups of coffee and tea make it seem like a perfect day to relax and visit in our dry, warm @seekoutside tipi.

It is such a treat to have visitors. It reminds us how many people care deeply about the Wilderness and want to protect it from sulfide-ore copper mining.
