We crossed paths with Brynley and Erik, two Canadian college students who are helping to map and promote the Path of the Paddle Trail. The Path of the Paddle Trail is 750 miles long and goes from Thunder Bay to Whiteshell Provincial Park, which is in southeast Manitoba, close to Winnipeg. The Path of the Paddle Trail will officially open next summer and is part of the 15,000 mile long Trans-Canada Trail. Most of the Trans-Canada Trail is a network of hiking trails, but since the Boundary Waters and Quetico are a wilderness maze of lakes and rivers, this area provides the perfect place for a water trail.

We shared chocolate with them and they shared bacon with us. I would say it was a solid exchange of goodwill between nations.

It is important to remember that Twin Metals and other proposed sulfide-ore copper mines along the edge of the Wilderness threaten the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness as well as the Quetico Provincial Park.

It is important that we all work together to protect this special place. Please take action by signing the petition at at http://ift.tt/1x2erSX.
If you can, please attend the U.S. Forest Service Public Listening Session in Duluth TOMORROW and one in Ely on July 19 (info on @savethebwca Facebook and web). This is a critical moment for the Wilderness and @savethebwca working to get hundreds of people to come to the both listening sessions to speak loudly for this quite place.
