Barking dogs, hugs, and laughter filled our camp this afternoon. Six friends who we know from working at @wintergreendogsledlodge skied out to visit with us this afternoon. They brought brats, potato chips, home grown squash, smoked whitefish, @bentpaddlebeer , and a variety of goodies, but the real treat was visiting with our friends.
The temperature hovered around zero, so after our long train of 8 skiers and 9 sled dogs arrived at our campsite we all piled into our 8 person @seekoutside tipi tent to catch up, cook brats, and share a growler of ice cold beer. At dusk everyone strapped on their ski boots, hooked up the dogs and headed home. Amy, Tank, Tina, Acorn, and I escorted them part way across the lake and the sun had set by the time we returned to camp.
Soon we were feeding the dogs, cutting firewood, and hauling water. The rhythm of the Wilderness is a beautiful thing. After 111 days in the Wilderness these tasks are as normal as flipping a light switch or turning on a faucet are outside the Wilderness. One thing that is the same everywhere is the joy felt when surrounded by good friends.
Our jobs and our way of life depend on this great Wilderness. We are so thankful for the support and encouragement we have received from so many people who care deeply about the Wilderness and are working to help @savetheBWCA. #BoundaryWaters #wildernessyear #onlyinMN #getoutstayout #BWCA #savetheBWCA #WeAreTheWild #winter #friends
