On this day two years ago we paddled into Washington D.C. and completed our 101-day journey by canoe and sailboat from the Boundary Waters to our nation’s capital. Our goal was to help raise awareness about the threats Twin Metals and other potential sulfide-ore copper mines along the edge of Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness pose.

More than 40 Minnesotans joined us in Washington D.C. to meet with our elected officials and government agencies to share their stories and help decision makers understand that the Boundary Waters is a national treasure that is too precious to risk.

A lot of progress has been made over the last two years, but more work needs to be done to ensure that the Boundary Waters is permanently protected from sulfide-ore copper mining pollution.
