Nothing brings the Grand Marais community together quite like the annual Summer Solstice Pageant! This was the 19th and titled To Bee or Not To Bee. #makepollinationgreatagain
We forgot to take a picture when we were stressing out in the fog just after sunrise, so here is Dave enjoying the great sailing and clear visibility in the second half of our day. We’re happily docked in Grand Marais after 19 hours of #freshwatersailing on #lakesuperior .
One last shot from Houghton. . . We began our day in the wee hours of the morning and are 52 nautical miles into the crossing. 28 to go and the sun is shining!
We’re stocked with fresh provisions and ready to head back out onto Lake Superior. Tomorrow we’ll make the 80 nautical mile crossing to Grand Marais, MN. @frostriverphotos
What a difference a day makes. Lake Superior settled down and we finally left Grand Marais, MI. We motored to Marquette into a headwind that eventually died, leaving the lake surface like glass. Now we’re making our way towards Houghton under sunny skies.
Great sailing conditions on Lake Superior yesterday! The southeast wind was perfect for heading to Grand Marais (MI, not MN). We were clipping along at 5-6 knots for most of the day, but the occasional gust brought up up to 7.5!
