In the first 6 weeks of our Year in the Wilderness we have experienced many priceless moments that will stay with us for a long time, like the reflections on the mirror-smooth lake as we watched the sunset after returning to our campsite from an evening paddle. For nearly an hour we sat quietly at the water’s edge after pulling up our canoe. The sun’s last rays painted the sky in ever-changing shades of pink and purple.
We have given up a lot to be out here, bearing witness to the Wilderness, but what we receive in return will stay with us for many years to come.
More than anything it has become clear that our wants and needs are often very different things. I hope that we can take this lesson with us when we leave the Wilderness.
