Today is a day to jump for joy! In fact, I found myself twirling, whooping and hollering in my underwear when I heard the news! (I hope our neighbors were not alarmed!) This morning the United States Forest Service officially announced a two-year pause on mining activities in approximately 234,328 acres of the Superior National Forest, a vital portion of the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
This announcement starts a 90-day period for the public to comment on the Forest Service’s application for withdrawal of these lands and minerals from the federal leasing program. As citizens, it is critical that we all make our voices heard and submit a comment (link in bio). Now it is time to roll up our sleeves and get to work and speak loudly for this quiet place. Amy and I have been thinking about what we can do to help urge others to submit comments and take action.
