Today Amy and I watched a group of boy scouts sail by as we lounged in the shade, enjoying the cool afternoon breeze. They were smiling and laughing as they cruised down Knife Lake, propelled by the wind in their improvised sail rather than their paddles. Sailboats are not allowed in the Wilderness, but you are allowed to rig a sail using a tarp and paddles.

We always enjoy seeing groups of young people out in the Boundary Waters and we have passed lots of young people on lakes and portage trails recently. One of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness’s greatest assets it is proximity to large population centers like the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, and Chicago. Each summer thousands of youth experience Wilderness for the first time right here in the Boundary Waters.
It is imperative that we protect the BWCAW so that future generations can learn and grow here like we have. Please visit http://ift.tt/1x2erSX and take action today!
