Two weeks ago today we crossed an invisible line and left the Wilderness to embark on a new adventure. For the first time in a year we slept in a bed, opened a refrigerator, flipped light switches, took showers, and yes, we even drove a car. It has been a whirlwind filled with excitement and many opportunities to share our #wildernessyear to @savetheBWCA with many people. I am sorry that we have not been posting on social media lately, but its just been that busy.

So what have we been doing?

Interviews! Our exit from the Wilderness has resulted in quite a bit of media coverage including: National Geographic Adventure, Outside Magazine, WCCO Radio and TV with Esme Murphy, KARE 11, Star Tribune, FOX 9, Duluth News Tribune and many more. Our story was even featured in the New York Times news app today!

Meetings. We spent 4 days in Washington D.C. meeting with our elected officials.

Events. 400 plus people came to the Solar Arts Center in Minneapolis, welcomed us home in style and help us raise money for the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters through an amazing party sponsored by @chowgirlscatering on Wednesday night we had the honor of meeting Vice President Walter Mondale and listening to his thoughtful reasons why Twin Metals and other proposed sulfide-ore copper mines near the Boundary Waters must be stopped. To top it off, our friend and Wilderness warrior, Joseph Goldstein, addressed the audience with a stellar speech and reminded everyone in the room what is at stake. He has inspired us to continue working so that the Boundary Waters remains pristine for Joseph’s younger brothers and for future generations.
