We’ve all worked so hard to make sure the Boundary Waters is protected from the threat of sulfide-ore copper mining on the edge of the Wilderness.
But tomorrow (Tuesday November 28) Rep. Emmer’s bill H.R. 3905 targeting the Boundary Waters is scheduled in the House Rules Committee and could head to the full House floor for a vote in the next few days.
We need you to call your Representative now, and urge them to oppose and vote no on this horrible bill that endangers the Boundary Waters.
Call using the Congressional switchboard: 202-224-3121. Choose the House of Representatives, enter your zip code and you will be connected to your Representative’s office.
Sample call script (you should speak from the heart)
Hi, my name is _____ and I am a constituent, I live in ____(city). I am urging you to vote no on Rep. Emmer’s bill H.R. 3905 which directly threatens the Boundary Waters — the most popular Wilderness in America. This bill would cancel the important two-year study of the risk of copper mining to the Boundary Waters, Quetico Park, and Voyageurs National Park. Along with most Minnesotans, I support this study and want the Boundary Waters protected. The bill also amends five longstanding bedrock conservation laws and removes Minnesota’s two national forests from their protective provisions. This is an extreme attack on public lands and I urge you to vote no on H.R. 3905 and help protect our national treasure.

Just finished your wonderful book. I’ve been to the Boundary Waters twice – although many years ago. Once with Wilderness Inquiry and once just me and another woman. I loved it there and have such wonderful memories. Your book brought them back and the short film!!! Wonderful. While still photos don’t do justice, the film helps a little! I did call my Representative’s office. Thank you for all you have been doing!
