Frosty morning in Isabella. We are getting ready to pedal 41 miles to Two Harbors today. We will be signing our new book, A Year in the Wilderness by @milkweed_books and gathering signatures on the canoe we are towing to Washington DC to #savethebwca from a series of proposed copper mines. Come join us at @spokengear / @cedar_coffee_co between 6-8 pm !

A big thank you to everyone who came out to see us off from Ely this morning. There was lots of positive energy and concerned citizens speaking loudly for the Boundary Waters and working to protect our nation’s most popular Wilderness from sulfide-ore copper mines being proposed on the edge of the Wilderness. We rode 32 miles today and are soaking in the radiant heat of a wood stove in a log cabin at the Great Lakes School of Log Building. Tomorrow we are headed to Two Harbors for an event at @spokengear and then we will be in Duluth at @bentpaddlebeer on the evening of the 22nd and at UMD on the evening of the 23rd.
We are loving our new, Boundary Waters bike jerseys and we just added them as a new perk on Kick Starter! Follow the link in our bio to check out all the cool Kickstarter rewards.

We stopped to gather water from the Kawishiwi River to carry all the way to DC as a constant reminder of the clean water we are pedaling to protect, 12 miles down, many more to go. #pedaltodc #savethebwca

Lots of last minute odds and ends to wrap up before we start #pedaltoDC in less than 12 hours. Dave spent about 5 hours getting our new drone up and running. There were some firmware issues, but at the end of the day we flew it for the first time. Our panniers are almost packed and ready to hit the road! Good night, sleep tight!

The bumped of our car was “plowing” snow as I drove out the driveway this morning at @wintergreendogsledlodge and down the road for the first mile. We got about 8 inches of snow over night. #pedaltoDC starts on Friday so here is to quickly melting snow!

Let the signing begin! After picking up our canoe at the @wenonah_canoe factory we stopped in Rochester to visit our friend Elton. Elton visited us more times during our #wildernessyear to @savethebwca than any other person. An avid paddler and skier he came in through out the year, often bring others with him along with a few treats. Elton is living in Rochester for several months to receive cancer treatment so he will not be home in Ely on April 20th to sign the signature canoe at our send off celebration so he signed the canoe on top of our car! We can’t think of a more appropriate first signature. Thanks for speaking loudly for the Boundary Waters Elton Brown! Please join Elton in signing the canoe we will tow behind our bicycles from Ely to Washington DC. Follow the link in our bio to find an event near you. Do you have friends in Duluth, Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburg, or other towns and cities along our route? Please tell your friends we are coming and encourage them to come to a Pedal to DC event, sign our canoe and online petition, support our kickstarter campaign, read our book, and help protect the Boundary Waters from sulfide-ore copper mines being proposed on the edge of our nation’s most popular Wilderness.

There is still plenty of snow and ice up here in Ely, but the roads are clear and we had a great 26 mile ride yesterday. A big thanks to everyone who has supported and shared our #pedaltoDC #kickstarter campaign. We have already raised over $4,000. We start pedaling to DC on April 20th and we need your help. Follow the link in our bio to check out our kickstarter rewards and watch our new video. Please help us share this widely! #rideloaded #savetheBWCA #bikelife #biketour
