Tuesday is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. To celebrate we decided to make ice luminaries to add some light to the darkest day. We are also celebrating the fact that the days will get longer every day for the next six months.

It was slow, cold work filling the balloons with water, but they are freezing nicely and we look forward to lighting them on Tuesday around 3:30 PM when it starts to get dark!
